Recycle Week: How some members do their bit

…  and not just in this week of the year. Here are some of your stories from Recycle Week 2010.

Ambius are accredited Planet Positive – ‘An environmental mark. A better way of living’ says the website – their main strategy is to reduce carbon emissions which includes decreasing Landfill by reducing waste and recycling.  Something we could all do personally and for business!

Flora-Tec Ltd tell us, “As part of our commitment to our IS0 14001 accreditation we have reduced our peat usage and all planting and subsequent maintenance works have been completed using our peat reduced compost.  This special mix uses 40% recycled wood pulp which not only has environmental benefits, but the lighter structure of the compost promotes healthy root growth and excellent plant development.

Urban Planters West London
remove as much plant waste material and compost for mulching.  All polythene waste i.e. plant sleeves and compost bags are recycled along with plastic plant pots which are made available to the local community.

One of PlantForce's preferred container series is made from recycled glass in the UK; along with recycled slate chippings these measures go a long way to meeting the green credentials of many of their clients.

Green Team Interiors: GTI always try to ensure that green issues are taken into account; their policies include recycling and reusing plastic plant pots wherever possible and composting green waste which is then reused by staff in their gardens.

At Indoor Garden Design in north London, old plants, containers and growing medium is re-used wherever possible.  Plants, for example, which have been removed from offices, are donated to London Zoo, IGD’s adopted charity - FAITH Centre, Marie Curie Cancer Care, schools, hospitals or taken home by clients or staff.

Indoor Garden Design promote energy conservation by cutting down on usage of electricity, gas and non-essential water at its premises (Indoor
Garden Design is currently looking into viability of the use of solar power and recycling of rainwater at its premises in North London).

Indoor Garden Design do not use products containing CFC’s, and promote recycling on premises e.g. plastics, glass, paper, tin, cardboard and soil,
metal, cartridges to be recycled. They are proud to have previously gained the Green Mark accreditation for its environmental efforts.
