Indoor Garden Design kicked off London Festival of Architecture at HOK

On Saturday 19th June Indoor Garden Design kicked off the London Festival of Architecture – a programme of open London architecture practices, talks, exhibitions and more – at HOK.

Building on the festivals theme of ‘The Welcoming City’, the central atrium space of HOKs studio has been transformed into a welcoming communal village green complete with a living green wall.  The studio has recently been awarded a LEED CI Gold certification and HOK staff are putting their green fingers to the test to create desktop allotments and office herb plots.

For the launch of London Festival of Architecture, HOK created a Village Green at their offices with a number of activities from table football tournaments to tea on the lawn!  Indoor Garden Design have planted green walls, an avenue of apple trees and mobile allotments at HOK’s new offices in Fitzrovia, a district in central London covering part of Camden and part of Westminster.  Fitzrovia is home to many architectural practices and Saturday saw the start of the Fitzrovia Trail as part of the Festival activities.

During the festival architectural practices across London will be opening their doors to local communities and the general London public, offering insight into the design process through tours, events and exhibitions. ‘Open Studios, Fitzrovia Trail’ is the collaboration of design practices including architects and engineers based in Fitzrovia who will be showcasing their work and hosting activities and exhibitions within their studios.

Ian Drummond, creative director at Indoor Garden Design commented, “We are raising the awareness of greening office spaces using HOK’s office space.  Three hundred architects received an invitation to the event from us personally.”

HOK will be raising funds for both the Royal Parks Foundation and Trees for Cities over the period of the Festival.
